Professor Gerry MacQuillan (PhD, FRACP, FRCP) was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1968, one year before the Irish conflict known as the “troubles” began. He graduated from Liverpool Medical School in 1992. Between 1992 and 2002 he trained in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology in England and Western Australia. In 2004 he took up a Consultant appointment at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital as a Transplant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist. He is Deputy Medical Director of the West Australian Liver Transplant Service. He consults in private practice at Hollywood Specialist Centre and offers an Endoscopy Service at Hollywood Private Hospital. Three of his major achievements in life include 1 original scientific discovery (during his PhD), an international water polo career and his 4 children.
