SUMMARY:Learn to manage and treat patients with chronic hepatitis B: Hepatitis B s100 Prescriber Course
DESCRIPTION:Did you know? There are approximately 25\,000 people living with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in Western Australia. Without medical intervention\, 1 in 4 people living with CHB will die from liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. \nAs rates of hepatitis B increase over the next 10 years there is a need for primary care practitioners\, particularly those with patients from priority populations e.g. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities & CALD backgrounds\, to diagnose\, treat and monitor their patients within the primary care setting. \nThis course is designed to support GPs & Medical Practitioners manage and treat chronic hepatitis B in the primary care setting and is an opportunity to become an s100 prescriber for hepatitis B treatment. \nThis interactive workshop involves; online learning modules\, in-depth presentations\, case discussions\, and facilitated group work giving attendees an opportunity to discuss practical strategies with peers and specialists. \nSuccessful completion of this training and online multiple choice assessment will accredit community-based medical practitioners to prescribe s100 highly specialised drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. \nThrough online learning and interactive face-to-face teaching\, participants will learn to:\n•	Screen at-risk patients\, accurately diagnose CHB infection and assess phase of the disease.\n•	Monitor patients appropriately\, establish suitability for treatment and refer to specialist care if indicated.\n•	Discuss aims of treatment\, antiviral treatment options\, duration of therapy and definitions of response.\n•	Monitor patients on treatment according to established protocols\, recognise and manage resistance\, hepatitis flares and response.\n•	Recognise risk factors\, clinical signs\, symptoms and complications of advanced liver disease and manage or refer to specialist care appropriately.\nThe course will be presented by WA specialists with expertise in hepatitis B.\nThis course is open to GPs\, Remote Medical practitioners\, Nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners. This course may be of particular interest to Practitioners working with patients with barriers to access to specialist services or from communities with higher prevalence such as:\n•	Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders\n•	People currently or previously in custodial settings\n•	People born in Asia & Pacific Islands\, Africa\, Middle East \nWe also encourage practitioners from the surrounding area\, including Katanning\, to attend this course. Scholarships are available for this course. Please contact Sam Hoang at Sam.hoang@ashm.org.au if you would like to apply.
