SUMMARY:Vascular Road Map
DESCRIPTION:Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis. It affects 10–15% of the general population and approximately 50% of PAD patients are asymptomatic; leading to under-diagnosis and under-treatment of the disease.\nThe most common symptom of PAD is intermittent claudication (IC) affecting the calf muscles\, which may be present in as few as 10% of patients. Symptomatic PAD patients have a worse prognosis than patients presenting with coronary artery disease or cerebrovascular disease\, but their atherosclerosis risk factors are less intensively treated. Both asymptomatic and symptomatic PAD patients have a high risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD)\, therefore early treatment reduces mortality.

SUMMARY:Positive Engagement with Patients in Pain – JURIEN BAY WA
DESCRIPTION:Pain management is currently undergoing a quiet revolution. Medicines and interventional techniques are limited in their effectiveness and are being replaced by self-management strategies emphasising whole person engagement. \nGPs and Health Professionals are invited to attend a clinical education seminar in Jurien Bay\, presented by Ms Melanie Galbraith\, APA Pain Physiotherapist. The activity aims to provide information on the interdisciplinary management of persistent pain\, highlighting: 1) the importance of clinical engagement in patient care; 2) sound ethical discourse between clinician and patient; and 3) the benefits of inter-professional involvement. \nLEARNING OUTCOMES:\n1. Describe and apply strategies to help validate the patient’s experience of pain.\n2. Apply up to date evidence to inform patients about the mechanisms and influence of pain\, beyond tissue level response.\n3. Identify the possible consequences of diagnostic uncertainty for clinicians and patients.\n4. Describe the importance of patient-clinician engagement in determining clinical outcomes.\n5. Explain the concept of working in the inter-subjective “third” space. \nPROGRAM:\n12:00pm Registration/Sign In. A light lunch will be provided at the start.\n12:15pm Presentation\n1:30pm Close \nTARGET AUDIENCE: Currently registered GPs\, Nurses\, Allied Health Professionals. \nREGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL for catering purposes. Please register online by Mon 10th May 2021. \nEnquiries to Clara Connor\, Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA\, phone 9388 2199.
