Dr Chen is an ophthalmologist with over 10 years of experience in treating surgical and medical retinal diseases. He has received funding from NHMRC for his research and published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in the areas of retina, stem cells, cell transplantation, clinical trials, genetics, optics and machine learning.
Dr Chen consults at Lions Eye Institute on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. He works at Royal Perth Hospital on alternate Fridays. He is also an active researcher in new treatments for macular degeneration and inherited retinal diseases. He holds an honorary position at Perth Children's Hospital for giving second opinions in childhood inherited retinal diseases.

Detection of circulating tumour cells in uveal melanoma
He is a no gap provider for cataract and retinal surgeries through all Private Health Funds.
He performed cataract surgery, macular surgery, diabetic vitrectomy and retinal laser.
He can perform emergency operations to repair retinal detachment and complications after cataract surgery.
Dr Chen speaks Mandarin and has visited several hospitals in China to teach retinal surgery.
